Freeze protection and extended shutdown by model

Separate ICW and INW powered freeze-protection limits and shutdown instructions.

Covered models: KNG199ICW, KNG150INW, KNG199INW

The shared INW manual covers KNG150INW and KNG199INW. KNG150INW is not listed in our current two-model catalog.

KNG199ICW: internal tubing only

ICW freeze protection requires electrical power and operates based on cold water inside the appliance. It does not operate during power failure. Protection applies only to internal water tubing, and the manual does not guarantee protection of connected water pipes. If unused in an indoor environment near or below freezing, drain the appliance. For extended nonoperation, drain condensate completely as well.

KNG199ICW: prolonged nonuse or freezing event

For extended nonuse, the manual says to disconnect power and completely drain the heater. Do not disconnect power in freezing conditions and assume active freeze protection remains available. After a freezing event, the appliance must be drained, fully thawed and inspected by a professional before use; frozen connected pipes must fully thaw. Have a professional arrange safe drainage and return to service.

KNG150INW / KNG199INW: power and unit ON

The anti-freezing system helps near to slightly below freezing but does not guarantee protection. Power and the unit itself must remain ON. It protects the heater, not inlet or outlet pipes; extreme cold can exceed its heating capacity even with power. Protect external piping separately.

KNG150INW / KNG199INW: extended shutdown

For extended idle periods the manual says to turn off power and water, and drain the heater and piping if freezing exposure is possible. Turning power OFF removes active anti-freeze operation. After a long shutdown, qualified service personnel should check operation and controls. Ask a professional to follow the model’s draining and resumption instructions if the plumbing arrangement or sequence is unclear; draining helps but is not a freeze-proof guarantee.
