KNG150INW / KNG199INW routine maintenance and filters
Monthly intake/filter cleaning and the distinct six-month descaling recommendation for INW units.
Covered models: KNG150INW, KNG199INW
The shared INW manual covers KNG150INW and KNG199INW. KNG150INW is not listed in our current two-model catalog.
Safety comes first
If you smell gas, do not light an appliance, touch electrical switches or use a phone in the building. Call your gas supplier from a neighbor’s phone and follow the manual’s emergency instructions. Do not repair gas piping, the display, burners, vent connectors or safety devices. Refer repairs to qualified service personnel. Combustion problems, including vent blockage or inadequate gas pressure, require a qualified service technician.

Monthly filters versus six-month cleaning
Routine Preventative Maintenance says to clean the air intake and cold-water supply filter monthly. How To Clean The Water Filter repeats monthly cleaning. The separate Six (6) Month Cleaning Routine recommends cleaning the heater every six months to prevent scale, lime or rust buildup and refers to a descaling kit. These are distinct instructions: do not replace monthly filter cleaning with a six-month filter interval.

Filter preparation and cleaning
Make the unit OFF, unplug it and disconnect electrical supply at the circuit breaker. Close the water supply, unscrew and remove the filter, then wash it under running water with a soft brush for severe debris. Do not tap the filter. Reinstall it securely; the manual then restores electrical supply and opens the cold-water supply. If you cannot follow the instructions safely, have a qualified person perform the work.

Use model-specific descaling instructions
The six-month routine recommends a descaling kit but does not supply a heat-exchanger chemical concentration or circulation duration. Do not borrow the ICW hardness table or assume a fixed circulation time for this model. Ask a qualified professional or Kings Peak for the appropriate kit instructions.

Inspection and the area around the heater
The manual recommends periodic inspection of the burner, relief valve, water filter and venting by service personnel qualified in gas appliance repair. Keep the surrounding area free of combustible materials, gasoline and flammable vapors. Do not operate the heater if something appears wrong. Do not plug a relief-valve outlet that discharges periodically; contact a plumbing contractor or water supplier.
