Who makes the adjustment

The KNG199ICW ships with altitude setting L2 at 05, for 2,000–6,500 ft above sea level. The manual says this setting may need to be adjusted for the installation altitude through the water heater control panel, and that the adjustment should only be performed by a qualified technician at the time of installation. If the adjustment is not made, or is made incorrectly, the manual warns it could cause improper operation, including gas leakage, fire or explosion. The step-by-step procedure is in the manual's Appliance Servicing section.

Installations above 6,500 feet

For a KNG199ICW installed above 6,500 ft, setting L2 to 06 during installation is recommended. The manufacturer describes the adjustment as a one-second process. A qualified installer still confirms the site elevation and verifies that the installation is suitable under the manual, including gas supply, venting and condensate requirements.

Limits that still apply

The manual's altitude table ends at 9,800 ft and gives no setting above that elevation. The altitude setting does not change freeze limits: the anti-freeze protection applies only to the appliance's internal water tubing, and condensate must be drained completely for extended nonuse because frozen condensate can damage the condensation system. See the freeze protection and extended shutdown guide.
